Property Closing and New Windows
Well after being away for a couple of months my camera is home again and in full use leading up to the big day.
Our purchase of the property across the road is now officially closed.
Windows and new door are in the house and Jerry is busy fixing up any framing and adding wall were there was not enough room for insulation.
We are lambing and already half the ewes have lambed. We have 140 lambs on the ground so far.
The girls are on holidays now so we have lots of cleaning and baking to do in preparation for Christmas. The school play was this week and sunday school puppet performance is tomorrow.

Barn Facilities at DeJong Acres

Mangers in bank barn.

One side of pole barn built onto the west end of the bank barn.

One of the two roofed bunk silos built onto the east end of the bank barn. Now the equipment has moved on and this is full of hay.

Main entrance with loading chute. We can back the truck and trailer right down in here.

Bunk Silo attached to bank barn.

Rolling up our sleeves and starting on the house
Okay, well, it has mostly been our contractor, Jerry. He is doing a wonderful job of pulling down the plaster, old insulation, birds nests and old cupboards. The basement has been jacked and floor joists beefed up. windows are ordered and the furnace come home today.
We found a nice claw foot tub in the bathroom. A very unique sink in the kitchen and an interesting shaving sink for hand washing. Some elements like this we will try to save. The solid wood doors, wood trim (attached with square nails), and solid wood wainscoting are also pieces we will attempt to salvage. I will post pictures soon.
The Attic has been exposed now and the cupboards that had been built into the sloped ceilings upstairs have been pulled out leaving nice spacious bedrooms.
With all the old plaster out of the way the structure seems so simple.
The biggest surprise of our demolition was the concrete poured in some of the walls. This nows leaves us with an insulation dilemma. To have enouh room for fibre glass insulation one requires a 4" space. This means framing an inside wall, removing the concrete, or looking into spray foam insulation. I will keep you posted!

Unique shaving sink- Picture doesn't show it well but it is very shallow from front to back.

Claw foot tub we found. Had been built around. I hink we will keep it- partly because I am not sure how we would get it out!

We will clean this sink up and use it in the laundry room

The New Farm
Our new farm at Lake Charles consists of 100 acres at home and when the remainder closes 170 acres across the road.
We are located across the road from the beautiful Lake Charles. The road is a nice quiet bike riders dream. Almost neighbouring on the Niagara Escarpment the wildlife and Nature is abundant.
Spring finds the woods lining the roads full of Trilliums.
Since the move we have aquired 2 new Llamas, Gretchen and Faith, a new Pony, Mara, and we are planning the arrival of the new 140 OLIBS Ewes.
Our move has enabled Brian to stay home and farm full time. At least when he is done moving everything home it will.
